Molly Drug Information

There have been many questions about the drug “Molly”.  Molly is another term for MDMA (Ecstasy). Molly is typically taken in a powder or crystal form which means it has a higher level of purity.  Molly has been alluded to  by several hip-hop artists in their song lyrics.  Please see the attached link for more information about Molly.

Point of Clarification from the Parent Meeting

During the parent meeting January 29th the North Cobb staff mentioned that middle school teachers select the core classes for our future freshman and that concerns about placement should be directed to the middle school.  After discussing the process further, the suggestion was amended.  Parents should not contact Awtrey teachers to request specific class selections.

To clarify, the middle school teachers select the core classes based upon pre-determined criteria provided by the high school.  North Cobb department heads met with Awtrey teachers on February 4th to provide the criteria.  If parents disagree with the teacher recommendations, there is a section on the registration paperwork coming home in April that can be completed where parents can appeal the placement.  North Cobb personnel will consult with Awtrey teachers, but ultimately they make the determination about where to place the students.

Allatoona Elective Registration Form

Future Allatoona Freshmen received a registration handbook and an invitation to Allatoona's Rising Freshman Parent Night next Tuesday evening.  Students are required to select three elective choices plus two alternates.  Year long classes such as band, chorus, orchestra, and ROTC count as two selections.

North Cobb Elective Brochure and Selection Form

Future North Cobb Freshmen students received an elective class selection brochure like the one below to use with parents to help determine which electives they would like to have next year. Students are required to pick six classes ranked in order of preference.  Eight should be selected if the student desires to take a foreign language.

Later in the month, students will transfer the class selections from the brochure to an elective registration form (also pasted below).  The elective registration form is completed at school and will not be sent home with students.

North Cobb staff will combine core subject teacher recommendations with courses selected on the elective registration form during the month of March.  Tentative schedules will be printed and sent home for parent approval in early April.

North Cobb Honors Recommendation Requirements

Below are the requirements provided by North Cobb for honors class placement.  Using these guidelines teachers will provide core class recommendations to the high school by the end of February.  Teacher recommendations will be added to elective selections between then and the end of March.  In early April, a tentative schedule will be sent home for parents to approve.  At that time parents will have the opportunity to review student schedules and request changes if desired.

Note regarding parent night presentation

I apologize for the delay in getting the Parent Night Presentation posted to the blog.  The presentation sparked some questions that led us to revisit the process with the high school's leadership and make some changes.  While I hoped to have the kinks ironed out by the end of the day today, circumstances did not allow it.  As soon as we can get the adjustments made, an updated presentation will be posted to the blog.

Again, I apologize for being unable to get everything posted Wednesday as promised and appreciate your patience in the interim.
