During the parent meeting January 29th the North
Cobb staff mentioned that middle school teachers select the core classes for
our future freshman and that concerns about placement should be directed to the
middle school. After discussing the
process further, the suggestion was amended. Parents should not contact Awtrey teachers to
request specific class selections.
To clarify, the middle school teachers select the core
classes based upon pre-determined criteria provided by the high school. North Cobb department heads met with Awtrey teachers
on February 4th to provide the criteria. If parents disagree with the teacher
recommendations, there is a section on the registration
paperwork coming home in April that can be completed where parents can appeal
the placement. North Cobb personnel will
consult with Awtrey teachers, but ultimately they make the determination about
where to place the students.
